LGMIS Local Government Area is one of the 17 LGAs in Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nigeria. It is the most urbanised LGA in the state, serving as the host of Jos, the state capital. With a population of over 900,000 residents, LGMIS is a diverse and vibrant community.
Hon. Ahmad Aliyu Mato was elected Executive Chairman of LGMIS in 2023. He holds a B.Sc. in Public Administration from the University of Jos and has served in various capacities in local governance for over 15 years.
Under his leadership, the council has prioritized infrastructure development, transparent budgeting, and digitization of government services.
Barr. Peace Ngo Dung is a legal practitioner with extensive experience in community law and governance. She serves as the Vice Chairman and oversees the Departments of Women Affairs and Social Services.

LGMIS Local Government Area was created in 1991 as part of the local government reforms by the Ibrahim Babangida administration. It was carved out of the former Jos Local Government Area to bring governance closer to the people.
The LGA serves as the administrative and commercial hub of Federal Republic of Nigeria, hosting the state capital, Jos, which is known for its temperate climate, tin mining heritage, and rich cultural diversity.
